Can Negative Thoughts Prevent You From Achieving Your Goals?


Did you know that your brain thinks approximately 40,000 to 90,000 thoughts per day! And most of these thoughts are the same thoughts you thought yesterday.

One of the universal laws touched on in “The Secret” is the law of attraction: that an energy vibration attracts it’s like. Your thoughts become things. The energy of your thoughts attracts the energy of the thing it is. This is the law underpinning visualization and affirmations. I strongly recommend affirmations. They really do work when repeated consistently with emotion and faith. Give it a go for 21 days and notice the changes.

If you analyze the problems or challenges that you’re struggling with now you’ll begin to notice how many negative thoughts are linked with them. For example, some people who are overweight might have thoughts like “I shouldn’t eat this.” “I can’t be bothered to go to the gym.”, “God I’m so fat.” These thoughts program your mind and create that reality for you.

Your thoughts can stop you from achieving your goals or sabotage your progress if they are in conflict with your goal, or reinforce the idea that you can’t change or are unworthy of having what you want.

For example, you might have a goal like this: “By X date I have released 10 kgs, and am a fit and healthy X kgs, I feel great.” You might even repeat this goal to yourself a couple of times per day.

However, if you also have old thoughts like: “I am so fat and disgusting.”, “I don’t deserve this”, “I don’t feel like exercising today.”, “Just one more chip, lolly etc won’t hurt.”, “I’m going to be fat forever” These old thoughts can sabotage your progress to your goal and prevent you from reaching it.

These thoughts may have started by trying to motivate you, or maybe someone else said them to you many years ago and you unconsciously accepted them, but they don’t help. The good news is, you ARE in charge of your own mind, you can choose to think different thoughts.

Make a list now of ALL the nasty, disempowering thoughts & excuses that you have, then make a new list of the complete opposite, a positive, empowering thought. When the old thought pops into your head. Say “switch”, and repeat the new thought to yourself 3 times.

If you start to really notice your thoughts, and begin to choose empowering thoughts, you will be amazed at the change it makes in your life.

The supercharged version of this is focused visualisation, meditation or hypnosis. These techniques allow you to really utilise the power of your unconscious mind to make a faster, easier and more lasting change… because your thoughts come from your unconscious mind, changing and releasing them in your unconscious mind through these methods is a lot faster than consciously changing them each time. Both methods work, just one takes longer.

Start to take charge of your thoughts and you’ll notice your life begin to change.
