Fitspiration vs. Your Best Body

Fitspiration vs. Your Best Body

All over the internet are images of tanned, washboard abs, sweat dripping and “inspiring” quotes above them… But are they really inspiring? Or do they do more damage than they intend?

Transcript

In today’s video blog, I want to talk to you about fitspiration. Because the internet is littered and Instagram is littered with feeds and posts of people showing off their booty body and their bikini body and touting it as inspiration.

And don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with being inspired by looking at someone else’s body and going, “Wow! I want that.” Where it can get tricky and disheartening is when you’re aiming to achieve a body that’s not anything like your body.

When you go after trying to achieve and become someone else and trying to get their body, then you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

We all have different body types and different capabilities of what our body is capable for. And you can absolutely go after becoming the best version of yourself. But when you go after trying to achieve and become someone else and trying to get their body, then you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

If you’re creating pin boards and following fitness models and wanting to achieve that muscular look or that bikini body, then just check in with yourself:

Do I have that similar type of body myself?
Do I have that capability to put on muscle easily and to get that kind of look?

You need to take a look at your bone structure and your overall body shape. When you lose weight, you’re going to become a smaller and more toned version of yourself. You’re not going to magically transform into someone else’s body. So, this is a really critical factor so that you don’t set yourself up for disappointment when you’re going on your weight loss journey.

Your life and your body right now is special.

Aim to be the best version of you that you can be. And, by all means, look to fitness models or “fitspiration” to inspire you, but don’t try to be that other person or try to put yourself down and say that the other person is better than you. They’ve just made different choices in their life. And, yes, they have a different body, they have different metabolism, and they have different capabilities.

But your life and your body right now is special, so don’t discount what you already have and the achievements that you’ve already made in other areas of your life as well. Be happy and grateful for what you’ve got. And from that place of gratefulness and self-love, go on to transform and tweak those parts of yourself that you’d like to uplevel, that you’d like to improve.

So, don’t try and change your body into someone else’s body. Just improve so that you’re a better you than you were yesterday, a fitter you than you were yesterday, a healthier you than you were yesterday. Take that one step at a time and look to be the best version of you that you can be and you’ll never be disappointed, and you’ll always be able to find that motivation and confidence to keep going.

Be the best version of you.
