How do you give back to your body?

How do you give back to your body?

Transcript

Kylie: Hello, my friends! I’m here with my dear friend Bruce and we’ve just been doing some magical bodywork. Didn’t we?

Bruce: We did, yes.

Kylie: Bruce, you were telling me that bodywork is in this book…

Bruce: Yes, Tools of Titans. AcroYoga.

Kylie: What does it say about it?

Bruce: Tim Ferriss who’ve done some crazy shit for his body – he’s a good biohacker – he says it’s the best thing that he has done for his body in years.

Kylie: Wow!

Bruce: Cool. That’s what I do.

Kylie: That’s what you do – and then some.

Bruce: And then some.

Kylie: And then some, and then some, and then some. It’s definitely the best thing that I’ve done for my body in years. And I was just reflecting on what are some of the reasons why people don’t look after themselves and don’t look after their bodies in this way. Because I know for myself, running a business, mum of two kids, stuff happens, life happens, time, right?

Bruce: Time, money… those two, they can both be solved. And actually, for me, the better the body is working, the better the decisions we make. So the more time we end up having, the better the decisions we’re making, the more money we end up having. But the third reason why people don’t do this is because they don’t feel like they deserve it. It’s like, “Awww, really?”

What do you need to do to know that you deserve to have your body looked after at the highest level?

What do you need to do to know that you deserve to have your body looked after at the highest level?

Kylie: I think maybe some people just don’t even realize that it’s possible to feel good in their bodies or feel like they’re so disconnected from their body that they’re not even feeling safe to be in their body, to notice when their body’s in pain.

Bruce: Yeah, totally.

Kylie: Right? You’re not even in the body.

Bruce: And then so many approaches to getting people back into their body actually use pain like “no pain no gain”, if it doesn’t hurt, if the elbow’s not too deep into the thing that I’m arrggghhh! It’s like clicking and cracking.

The body can only ever relax to the extent that it feels safe and comfortable. So if you want to support the body to be able to deeply relax, support it to feel safe and comfortable – and it will melt, it will just dissolve. The tension’s not really real and it actually doesn’t matter how long we’ve been holding on to the tension for.

When we relax it, when we let it go, it can just be gone.

When we relax it, when we let it go, it can just be gone.

Kylie: *exhales*

Bruce: Yeah, like that. Sometimes many people are holding back to so much. The tension, especially in modern life, it builds up so incrementally. Incremental. Incremental. Incremental.

Kylie: It’s like barnacles on a boat or something.

Bruce: And then suddenly I’m walking around in this residual tension that becomes my residual self-image. I wake up in the morning and I expect my body to go back into this tension pattern. And it’s only when the body gets invited, gets shown… Oh wow!

Oh, I’m holding on to all this excess tension, and once it goes then the body goes “Oh wow, that’s what it feels like when the blood flows, when the energy flows, when things start working in you.”

Kylie: If someone’s watching this and they might think that the way that their body is right now is normal and that there’s not even a possibility for something greater – what might be some of the signposts that would allow you to know or allow someone to know that “Hey, things can feel better”?

What might be some of the signposts that would allow someone to know that things can feel better?

Bruce: That’s a great question. Externally, posture. If your spine’s not vertical, if there’s any discrepancy in the height of one shoulder or one hip to the other, there’s obviously an imbalance. Having a look at their feet, if the toes aren’t spread and wide. There’s so many… yeah.

Kylie: And so then what kinds of things show up? Would you be tired in the morning? Would you have aches and pains – or headaches?

What kinds of things show up?

Bruce: That would be the easy one. Any aches and pains – any headaches, any jaw pain, any poor sleep, any of the stress symptoms like emotional eating. That would be the top one.

Kylie: Low libido.

Bruce: Low libido, yeah. Any pain, any joint pain – even small – or tension headaches. You see those old couples in a Zimmer frame? Any anytime I see someone in a Zimmer frame, from my perspective I’m just like, “That did not happen overnight.” That’s the sum total of incremental tension on top of tension on top of tension.

Oftentimes people think ,“I need to get fit or workout,” so they go and join a bootcamp or… people get injured doing yoga.

Kylie: They’re going too hard. Too hard, too fast, too intense.

Bruce: Wipe the slate clean, get back in your body, get rid of the residual tension – and then you can build back up from there safely.

Wipe the slate clean, get back in your body, get rid of the residual tension – and then you can build back up from there safely.

Kylie: So good. It feels so good to have this support. I know for myself, it’s been maybe six weeks or something since I’ve seen Bruce, and I know the difference in my body when I see you. Ever since when I don’t see you regularly, right?

Bruce: And it’s not just in your body but in your life. You giving to so many other people – mother of two, wife, business owner, coaching and supporting all these people – that’s energy out, out, out, out, out. If you don’t get your cup filled back up, then that detracts from how much you have to give.

Kylie: Totally. I become snappy, I make bad decisions, I’m tired and lethargic – and all of those things. So I get sick. I have a cold right now. People need to realize that there’s a possibility out there for them to perform better and that all of the goals that they’re setting themselves, like all the goals that you have for where you want to go and what you want to do can be improved by having a relaxed, energized vessel to do those things with.

Every excess tension that you’re holding is wasted energy that you were not able to invest toward your goal.

Bruce: Yeah, totally. Every excess tension that you’re holding is wasted energy that you were not able to invest toward your goal. You’re blocking yourself from your own goal through your residual tension.

When you relax, the energy can flow through the body. When the energy flows through the body, it heals, it cultivates more energy with that extra energy that you’ve got. You get to invest it into the people, places, things that give you the most energy back – and you start this perpetual motion of actually cultivating energy. The more freely energy flows through the body, the more it can flow through your life.

The more freely energy flows through the body, the more it can flow through your life.

Kylie: Amazing! And when energy flows through your life, what kind of positive benefits could one experience from that?

Bruce: Cool shit happens! What do you want? What do you want more of?

Kylie: Magic happens.

Bruce: Yeah, that’s really where it becomes what we bespoke to have. What would you like more of? More money, more career satisfaction, more fulfillment at home and a deeper relationship, a better self-image.

Kylie: Better sex.

Bruce: What is it that is going to bring the most joy, the most love, the most fulfillment to you? When we can free the blockages in the body, we can cultivate that.

Kylie: So how would people find you if they want to come and get some magic for themselves.

Bruce: www.TheBodyMagician.com. You can find me on Instagram: @thebodymagician

Kylie: Do it. Come and see Bruce. He’s the best. Do it.
