Shallow coaching is not enough anymore…

I just read an amazing post by my new friend, Anita Garza, and it prompted and inspired this video. (Check it out down below)
Shallow coaching is just not enough anymore.
We are a world that is going through radical change, and people are waking up to ancestral collective wounds, soul wounds that have been festering inside humanity for a really long time – racial injustice, collective trauma, slavery, human trafficking, ecological disaster, this rivalrous hierarchical nature that is in all of us.
It is embedded in all of us. It’s not a problem “out there” – it is a problem “in here” with every single one of us.
We all have our part to play in this, and each and everyone of us has our own inner work to do in order to show up in a new way, in a more compassionate and loving way, to be the change that we want to see in the world.
If you’re a coach helping people with change, it’s no longer good enough and no longer efficient, effective, helpful to just teach surface level strategies.
We as coaches need to have the skills, ability, wherewithal, willingness to go deep into our own stuff and face our own biases, prejudices, blind spots, and to be willing and have the capacity to go deep with our clients to help them with transformational change. Not just surface level strategic change but really deep transformational change.
Because that’s what the world requires to heal. It requires us to face those hidden wounds and shadows and move through them. Not bypass them but move through them, integrate and heal those wounds, to see those parts of ourselves for all sorts of different reasons that might be hurting or feel stuck or unworthy or shameful.
So if you are not yet making the impact or the income that you want to in your coaching business, my calling for you and my challenge and gauntlet for you is to start to integrate the outer world work that you do with the inner world work that you do.
I know that I speak to coaches on both sides of this equation.
Some coaches that follow me are really great at business and really great at fitness and practical world stuff. And some coaches are really great at inner world stuff, but their own inner world wounds around capitalism and business and privilege stop them from making the impact that they really truly want to make and they have the capacity to make because they have their own rejection of the oppressor.
There’s lots of different things that are going on here and each and everyone of us has our own stuff to work through.
And so, for us to really stand equally as human beings of all colors, shapes, races, sizes, cultures, experiences, and really stand in synarchy, which is the highest level beyond hierarchy, and really stand together as an industry and as a planet, then we get to do the deep work as well as the surface level work.
We get to show up in a new way. We get to go deep and look at our own stuff so that we can then help our clients go through their stuff as well.
Because transformational change doesn’t happen just from a strategy. Transformational change requires a fundamental shift of how you see yourself and how you see yourself within the context of the world, how you see your place in the world – your status, your worthiness, your ability to do what you want to do and what your heart yearns for.
So, surface level stuff is not enough, and I’ve kind of created this new idea… Well, it’s not that new, it’s like it’s the combination of super and coaching.
This identity or new archetype of the SuperCoach is one that has the willingness, the capacity, the ability to look within, to look at those difficult uncomfortable places, and to grow and to heal and to help others do the same.

It is no longer good enough to just do surface level stuff. We need to be fully integrated transformational humans to be beacons and lighthouses of the change that the world requires right now.

This morning I had a kick-ass coaching session with Kylie Ryan.
